Bacalhôa Buddha Eden Garden
only 20 minutes away by car
“Accept our invitation and come visit Quinta dos Loridos, home to the largest Asian garden in Europe, the impressive Bacalhôa Buddha Eden.
With about 35 hectares, the garden was created in protest against the destruction of the Giant Buddhas of Bamyan, in what was one of the greatest acts of cultural barbarism, erasing from memory masterpieces of the late period of Gandhara Art.
Among Buddhas, pagodas, terracotta statues and various sculptures carefully placed among the vegetation, it is estimated that more than 6 thousand tons of marble and granite were used to build this monumental work. The central staircase is the focal point of the garden, where golden Buddhas calmly welcome visitors.
The African Sculpture art garden is dedicated to the Shona people of Zimbabwe, who for over a thousand years have carved stone by hand into works of art. The Shona people believe in ancestral spirits known as "Vadzimu". Sculptures demonstrate the union between these two worlds, the physical and the spiritual. These amazing stone carvers hold the belief that each stone has a living spirit, which influences what it will become. The artist's job is to "release the spirit of the stone". There are more than 200 sculptures arranged under the shade of 1000 palm trees.”

Caldas de Rainha
only 20 minutes away by car
The town was founded in the 15th Century by Queen Leonor, the wife of King Dom João II, who established a church and a hospital at the thermal springs. Queen Leonor had had a wound that had not healed, but it was cured after she spent time in the springs. The Hospital Termal Rainha D. Leonor is still in operation and is considered to be the oldest operating thermal hospital in the world but, these days, Caldas da Rainha is more famous for its iconic pottery. A great town to go for local fish, fruit and vegetable markets, great little cafes, and lots of shopping choices. A wonderful park in the town center makes for great strolls as well.

Sintra
“With its rippling mountains, dewy forests thick with ferns and lichen, exotic gardens and glittering palaces, Sintra is like a page torn from a fairy tale. Its Unesco World Heritage–listed centre, Sintra-Vila, is dotted with pastel-hued manors folded into luxuriant hills that roll down to the blue Atlantic.”

Nazaré
Nazaré is a beautiful historic fishing town. These days, Nazaré’s major attractions are the waves and surfing, thanks to the "Nazaré Canyon", a submarine geomorphological phenomenon that allows the formation of perfect giant waves. It is the largest underwater canyon in Europe, about 170 kilometres along the coast, reaching a depth of 5,000 metres.
